The God of the universe is still in control and is working on our behalf.
I woke up this morning with this verse running through my mind…
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.- Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
We lean on our own understanding far too often. That’s why the writer of Proverbs 3 warns us not to fall into the trap of “figuring it out on our own.” Jesus is willing to carry us if we will stop walking off on our own and let him pick us up. Our “independence” is not maturity, it is ignorance. When we try to do life on our own we put ourselves in a space that makes us more apt to be self-centered, self-protective and closed-off to the world. The enemy of your soul will lie to you and lead you astray when you try to independently walk through this life.
The Lord is inviting us to move into a new place of relying on his faithfulness.
Jesus is the same, yesterday, today and forever.
He is calling to your heart and challenging you to put your trust in Him.
He is calling you away from trying to control things and manipulate your world for your benefit.
He is calling you to surrender and rest in the peace that He has promised to give you.
What will it take?
What will it take for you to lay down the weapons of your warfare (trying to protect yourself), and take up the Sword of the Spirit (His Word) and the Belt of Truth?
When the facts and the truth seem to be up for grabs all around us, we must return to the truth that will never waiver – the truth that’s found in God’s Word. If there has ever been a time to dust off your Bible and read it, it is now. Reading scripture increases our faith by reminding us of all that God has done in the past and what he will continue to do.
Another way that I experience the peace of God is through worshiping with my voice. I sometimes put on a YouTube video of my current favorite worship song and sing it out loud. Other times I ask my smart speaker or phone to play worship songs for me. When I am all alone on a walk, sometimes I just sing the chorus of an old hymn or worship song over and over and ask God to reveal his character and love to me. I can’t think of a time that I’ve turned to Jesus in worship and some change in my heart hasn’t occurred.
What will trusting God look like for you this week?
Will you spend some concentrated time seeking Him in prayer?
Will you enter into some heartfelt surrender in worship?
Will you be inspired by reading the Word of God and meditating on his truth?
Jesus is calling you out of stress, worry, anxiety and independence – into a place of peace, trusting in His plan, His goodness and receiving His strength.
